Flavio Bolsonaro vanished from Brazil on Tuesday as the Federal Police revoked both his regular and diplomatic passports, following a Supreme Court order that he surrender them within 24 hours.
The 45‑year‑old senator, eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, had previously been convicted of plotting a coup and is under two federal investigations for alleged money laundering and corruption.
His allies, citing a lack of contact, claim he may have crossed into Argentina’s Misiones province, but Argentina’s spokesperson denied any asylum request and the U.S. diplomatic corps remains silent.
In the wake of the revocation, the Supreme Court has also ordered a probe into alleged illegal foreign financing of Bolsonaro’s campaign, including ties to a group linked to U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
The next day, Federal Police officials will present evidence to the court, while the judicial panel is expected to schedule a hearing before the end of the week.
Among Bolsonaro’s supporters, a mother in São Paulo voices fear that the decision will deepen the country’s political turmoil, underscoring the human cost of the legal battle.
