NATCO Pharma (NSE: NATCO) closed Monday, October 19, up 2.14% at ₹794.80, snapping a recent streak of flat trading. The pop came on a single disclosure: the company officially launched Carboplatin Injection in the US market. It’s a generic version of Bristol Myers Squibb’s Paraplatin®, sold through its US subsidiary, NATCO Pharma USA LLC. For a firm currently grappling with sharp domestic headwinds, this is a critical geographic diversification play.
The product isn’t small. Industry data pegs US revenues for Carboplatin Injection at $27.8 million (approx. ₹235 crore) for the twelve months ending June 2026. Natco is manufacturing this injectable in collaboration with Chennai-based Teyro Labs Pvt Ltd. The drug treats advanced ovarian carcinoma, covering both first-line combination chemotherapy and supportive care for recurring malignancies. In a market where US generics are the gold standard for margin stability, this entry is a tangible revenue line item, not just a pipeline whisper.
But don’t let the green candle fool you into ignoring the fundamentals. Natco’s Q1FY27 results, released earlier this month, were brutal. Net profit collapsed 57% to ₹206.5 crore from ₹480.7 crore in the same period last year. Revenue slumped 44.7% to ₹735.2 crore, down from ₹1,328.9 crore. EBITDA margins compressed severely to 25.4% from 43%. The market is clearly pricing in this operational drag, which is why the stock sits 35.32% below its 52-week high of ₹1,216.81.
The technicals are equally cautious. The stock opened at ₹786.95 and touched an intraday high of ₹794.80 before settling. Over the last 30 days, the share price has actually declined by nearly 2%. It is trading just 1.03% above its 52-week low of ₹779.00. While the US launch provides a short-term catalyst, the path to recovering the 35% lost value requires more than one product registration. Investors are watching to see if this US entry can stabilize the earnings trajectory or if the Q1 decline signals a structural issue in the domestic portfolio.
So, what’s next? The immediate focus shifts to how quickly Natco can ramp up volumes for Carboplatin in the US to offset the domestic revenue gap. With the stock hovering near 52-week lows, any positive update on US uptake or a stabilization in Q2FY27 domestic numbers could trigger a sharper re-rating. For now, it’s a mixed bag: a strategic win in the US, a fundamental warning in India.
