Delhi High Court on Wednesday rebuked CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das for breaching their bail bond after a protest attempt at Jantar Mantar on Oct 14.
The two 27‑ and 31‑year‑old activists were first detained on Oct 10 at Delhi airport, released after paying Rs 50,000 peace bonds, only to be rearrested four days later for a Tiranga march.
Justice Subramonium Prasad warned that breaking a bond creates a chain reaction, citing international student protests that escalated into arson and building fires.
The judge questioned their motives, noting that the CJP’s cause had shifted from student activism to a broader political agenda, and asked whether they truly understood the implications of their actions.
Ranka and Das were cautioned that further breaches could trigger a stricter bond and potentially longer judicial custody, with a follow‑up hearing slated for Oct 28.
In a move that could set a precedent for protest conduct, the court has instructed the Special Executive Magistrate to reconsider extending their custody pending the upcoming hearing.
