The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on October 1, 2026, at 5500 Coolidge Street in Riverview, Florida, and arrested 32‑year‑old Zachary Diaz for allegedly running a Facebook Marketplace operation that sold 131 live hallucinogenic cacti and mushrooms.
Investigators seized 131 live plants, 50 pounds of mescaline‑laden cacti, and 1.5 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, along with cultivation equipment and supplies that the sheriff’s Opioid Overdose Investigation Section says were used for manufacturing.
Diaz is charged with three counts each of possession with intent to sell, delivery within 1,000 feet of a church, and two counts of manufacturing a controlled substance. The charges reference the alleged sale and transport of mescaline and psilocybin within proximity to sacred sites.
In a social‑media statement, the sheriff’s office warned that Facebook Marketplace is not a platform for selling hallucinogens, citing Diaz’s case as a cautionary example.
Diaz has been booked into Hillsborough County jail and will be arraigned next week, facing the full range of federal and state drug‑related indictments.
