Outside the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee office in Lucknow, a wall of posters emblazoned "200 seat haq hai hamara" has gone up, a bold claim of Congress's ambition for the state’s 2027 Assembly election.
The stickers feature photos of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, signalling the party’s intent to secure a 200‑seat slate from the Samajwadi Party as part of the INDIA coalition’s seat‑sharing talks.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has called the display a BJP stunt, alleging the ruling party erected the posters without permission and without the municipal fee.
Yadav warned that the municipal authorities had let the posters slip through unpaid, claiming the act could be an attempt to mask the identity of those behind the campaign and to siphon local revenue.
The opposition alliance, which includes Congress, Samajwadi Party, and others, is on the cusp of negotiating the 200‑seat demand, while the BJP remains silent on the accusation.
Congress is set to meet with Samajwadi Party leaders next week to iron out the seat‑sharing details, while Yadav has filed a formal protest with Lucknow Municipal Corporation, hoping to curb further unauthorized displays.
