Biocon Ltd. closed 2.1% lower at ₹323.5 on Monday, the latest dip following its announcement of fresh global licences for the biosimilar Yesintek.
The slide echoes a 16.6% year‑to‑date drop and a 13.7% decline over the past month, underscoring a continued sell‑off in the biotech sector.
According to the company’s exchange filing, Biocon inked a licence with Janssen Sciences Ireland, enabling immediate commercialisation of Yesintek in Australia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Israel, New Zealand, Kazakhstan and South Korea.
Yesintek targets the same disease indications as Johnson & Johnson’s Stelara, which generated $6.08 billion in sales last year, setting a high benchmark for the biosimilar’s potential market.
While the licences broaden the company’s footprint, analysts note that short‑term earnings will remain flat as the product pipeline matures. Investors will keep an eye on the Q4 earnings release due 15 Nov for clearer guidance.
The move may provide a foundation for future top‑line growth, but the immediate market reaction stays muted amid broader sector volatility.
