Michael Jordan’s Jordan Brand just crossed a decade of impact. On July 15, 2025, Nike’s official announcement confirmed the Wings initiative has now opened doors for more than 4,000 students globally. This isn't just a press release number; it represents a decade of sustained effort to break down barriers for young people in disadvantaged communities.
The 2025 cohort is substantial. The brand awarded scholarships to over 350 students this year alone. These recipients span the United States—specifically Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Portland—alongside Manila in the Philippines and 33 cities across China. Many of these scholars are first-generation university attendees, a demographic the program explicitly targets through local partner networks.
Money is only half the equation. The Wings program pairs financial aid with mentorship, creative exploration, and practical career skills. Under the 'Beyond Basketball' banner, the initiative merges sport with life skills, while the Design Program has already guided over 1,400 students through portfolio development and creative industry entry. Last year, 36 students secured internships across NIKE, Inc. offices worldwide, gaining real-world experience alongside their studies.
The anniversary marks a geographic shift. Jordan Brand is pushing into Europe, launching new chapters in London and Paris. In London, a partnership with the Hoopsfix Foundation will bring the Beyond Basketball curriculum to local youth. This expansion signals a move beyond the traditional US-Asia footprint, aiming to replicate the community model on a new continent.
The next phase of the initiative depends on these European partnerships gaining traction. As the program scales, the focus remains on creating 'inspiration and access'—phrasing from the Wings website that highlights the brand’s intent to build pathways, not just hand out checks. For the 4,000 scholars already in the network, the goal is clear: turn education into lasting career stability.
