Prit Pankaj Jain, 31, was taken into custody by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office on September 24 after arriving in the Meadowlands community from Mumbai, India. The arrest followed a tip from an Uber driver who reported concerns about a passenger who had just been dropped off in the area. The driver noticed the man speaking to a 17‑year‑old girl in a manner that raised alarm.
Jain had been chatting with the girl on multiple social‑media platforms for two years, disguising his age and presenting himself as a younger male. When the girl discovered his true identity, she ended the relationship and blocked him. In retaliation, he threatened to release explicit material they had exchanged.
Sheriff’s Deputy Ervin Scott said investigators found evidence that Jain had recorded videos of the victim engaging in sexual activity. The warrants also allege that he had a secondary address for other family members, suggesting a broader network.
Jain now faces four counts of first‑degree exploitation of a minor, four counts of third‑degree exploitation, and one count of sexual extortion. His bond was denied, and he will appear before a magistrate next week.
The case underscores the reach of online grooming. Prosecutors plan to file additional charges after a forensic review of the evidence, and the girl’s family has requested the case be handled with sensitivity.
