When the phone rang, GV Prakash Kumar was already humming the opening bars.
Ramayana: Part 1, slated for a Diwali release, pits Ranbir Kapoor against Yash with Sai Pallavi lighting up the screen. The two‑part epic is a joint effort by Nitesh Tiwari and Monster Mind Creations, with AR Rahman at the helm of the music.
Rahman, known for turning mythic tales into sonic spectacles, teamed up with Tamil's Anirudh Ravichander. The two legends, who've never shared a studio before, were asked to lay down a track that would echo through the film's grand narrative.
"After I returned from Ayodhya, Rahman called me to the studio— and we jammed," said GV. "I didn't even know I'd be singing with Anirudh until we were in the mix." The energy in the room was palpable, a mix of reverence for the myth and the thrill of creating something fresh.
The track, titled Ravana Tandav, dropped on October 20, and the recording took a mere two hours—a testament to the trio's chemistry and Rahman's streamlined workflow. Fans are already dropping the song on streaming platforms, and the buzz is building faster than the film's release calendar.
With the soundtrack already generating chatter, the team plans to unveil the full score before the Diwali premiere. If this teaser is any indication, Ramayana: Part 1 might just set a new benchmark for epic cinema music.
