Chief Justice Surya Kant praised the police for seamlessly securing the 18th BRICS Summit in Delhi on Thursday, September 13, 2026. The ceremony, held at the Pragati Maidan, saw officers escorting delegates, monitoring routes, and maintaining 24‑hour vigilance.
During the book launch of former IPS officer OP Mishra, Kant highlighted that the police and courts together form a continuous chain of justice. He said, “An FIR recorded with care or an investigation conducted with fairness strengthens the possibility of justice being done in court.”
Kant went on to say that police duty begins long before a crime occurs, with preparation, coordination, and anticipation. He added, “Some of the finest police work is precisely that which prevents a difficult situation from ever becoming a crisis.”
Former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar and adviser to ex‑Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sanjaya Baru, joined the discussion. Kumar noted that the police’s meticulous planning saved hours of potential disruption, while Baru praised the officers’ “responsible leadership and modern investigative resources.”
The Chief Justice concluded by urging the government to provide proper training, modern investigative tools, and improved welfare for officers. He said the judiciary will inherit whatever the police place before it, underscoring that the path to justice starts in the police station.
