The clip first surfaced on Instagram when Aemon, a Malaysian tourist, posted the footage, instantly drawing criticism across the platform.
Inside a first‑class AC compartment on the Green Line, the officer—identified only as a Punjab Police constable—first scanned the couple’s passports and tickets, then returned to their seat to conduct a more invasive search.
After demanding Luiza, the German passenger, stand, the constable opened her bag, lifted clothes, socks and a makeup kit, and brought each item close to his nose for an unnerving sniff.
Followers on X and other sites condemned the act as humiliating, while a handful of users defended the officer, citing routine security checks for foreign travelers.
Punjab Police have yet to issue a statement, and the incident has sparked calls for a formal inquiry into the constable’s conduct. Aemon said the experience left him feeling humiliated and shocked.
