Suyash Sinha, 31, appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday after police raided his Canberra home and seized several electronic devices.
Prosecutors said Sinha met a woman through a dating app, rejected her advances, and continued to contact her, sending harassing messages that described her clothing and threatened to look up her family via government databases.
The complainant, who reported feeling frightened and diagnosed with post‑traumatic stress disorder, told the court that Sinha’s fixation posed a serious threat to her safety. Prosecutor Anjali Sharma said the repeated harassment had caused her to seek police protection and deactivate her social media accounts.
Special Magistrate Lucinda Wilson denied bail, citing the risk of interference with witnesses and the high danger to the complainant’s wellbeing. She added that the alleged conduct showed a disregard for the complainant’s rights and safety.
Sinha’s lawyer argued that his financial responsibilities abroad would ensure compliance with bail conditions, but the judge rejected the claim and ordered him to remain in custody until the trial. The court scheduled the preliminary hearing for the next month, where the prosecution will present evidence and the defense will argue for release.
