Kolkata Police recovered a decomposed male body from a red luxury car parked on Rajdanga Main Road in Kasba on Thursday afternoon. Residents had complained of a foul odor, prompting officers from Kasba Police Station to investigate.
The vehicle, reportedly in a non‑functional state, had been abandoned for several days. All windows were shut, yet the doors remained unlocked, and the car’s engine had been silent since it was parked.
Police sources said the body was found on the front passenger seat, surrounded by dust and a stale smell that had lingered in the interior. The officers from the Kasba post were the first to arrive, followed by detectives from the Lalbazar headquarters.
The recovered body has been handed over to the forensic hospital for a post‑mortem examination. Investigators want to determine whether the individual died inside the vehicle or was placed there after death, and are looking into the circumstances that led to the car’s abandonment.
Local residents have expressed concern, citing the eerie quiet of the roadside and the sudden appearance of the body. The community’s reaction underscores the urgency of the investigation.
The next step for the case is the autopsy report, which will guide police in deciding whether foul play is involved or if the death was natural.
