Trent Ltd. closed its Q2 FY27 business update with a 23% year-on-year jump in revenue, a figure that broke a recent pattern of sub-20% growth. This is the highest topline expansion the retailer has posted in at least six quarters. It is also only the second time in that span that growth has crossed the 20% mark, a threshold that has become the unofficial benchmark for investor confidence in the Tata group entity.
The numbers are inching closer to the 25% Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) target management outlined at the start of FY26. Until this quarter, the stock had punished any deviation from that target. Remember July 7? When the Q1 provisional update showed 19% growth, Trent shares dropped 12% intraday. The market’s sensitivity is clear: they want 25%, or close to it.
Store expansion continues to be the engine behind this topline. Trent opened its 1,000th Zudio store during the quarter. In total, the company added 10 Westside outlets and 17 Zudio stores between July and September. This aggressive retail footprint expansion is consistent with the strategy of driving volume through its value-fashion segment.
Despite the positive quarterly data, the stock’s trajectory has been soft. Trent ended Monday’s session flat at ₹2,580 on the BSE. However, the broader trend is negative; the stock has fallen in eight of the last ten trading sessions. Year-to-date, the shares are down 10%, reflecting persistent investor caution even when metrics improve.
Markets will react to this update on Tuesday, October 6. With the revenue growth now edging toward the 25% sustainable target cited by management, traders will watch for any analyst reassessments. The key question remains whether this 23% print is enough to reverse the year-long sell-off or if investors demand a full return to the 25% growth corridor.
