Katie Zacharia confirmed her exit as White House Press Secretary on Oct 17 2026, hours after President Donald Trump told reporters she might want to reconsider the role. Trump’s remark came during a lengthy briefing where he said he had felt she was treated unfairly by the press.
The former senior communications adviser served only five days, a stint that included a short 14‑minute briefing that drew criticism for taking only three questions from Trump‑leaning media. Her legal credentials were also questioned after she revealed she had failed the U.S. bar exam and had never practiced law.
Before joining Trump Media and Technology Group in June, Zacharia had been a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security under Secretary Kristi Noem. She left DPS after about two months, then returned to the political arena before being tapped for the White House.
The resignation leaves the White House without a press secretary, and officials said a search will begin immediately to fill the vacancy. Trump’s comments on the matter have sparked debate in conservative circles about the suitability of his appointees.
