Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari, an Indian citizen, was taken into custody in Minnesota after signing a voter signature certificate on November 5, 2024 that required him to affirm U.S. citizenship.
The indictment alleges he knowingly furnished false information to register and vote in the 2024 general election, a crime that can carry up to five years in prison on each count.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin warned to "aliens" who vote, saying, "We will find you, arrest you…" while Special Agent Travis Pickard called the act a "serious crime" and vowed HSI would continue protecting election integrity.
Chaudhari now faces federal charges and will be arraigned before a U.S. district court, with potential deportation if convicted. The case underscores the federal government’s resolve to curb non‑citizen voting and may prompt further scrutiny of voter registration procedures across states.
