Delhi High Court on Wednesday, Oct 21, agreed to hold an urgent hearing for CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, who have been in judicial custody since Oct 14.
The leaders were remanded to two additional days of custody on Oct 19, following a protest at the Jantar Mantar site in Delhi, now a denotified protest zone.
In their petition, the duo argued that a protest at a denotified site is a matter of regulation, not a threat to public order, noting the site’s status is under challenge in W.P.(C) no. 1357/2026 before the Supreme Court.
CJP’s legal team, led by Ratna Singh, filed the urgent hearing request, accusing the state of political games that could curtail the leaders’ liberty. Founder Abhijeet Dipke posted solidarity, vowing their spirits remain unbroken.
Delhi Police transferred two FIRs—one from the Connaught Place entry, the other from the Jantar Mantar protest—to the Crime Branch, citing the leaders’ alleged trespassing of private property.
The High Court will review the bail petitions before the Special Executive Magistrate today, with the decision expected to determine whether Ranka and Das will remain in custody or achieve temporary release.
