Panun Kashmir and the Jammu State People’s Movement filed a complaint at Jammu’s Channi Himmat police station on 19 June 2024, demanding that a First Information Report be registered against former chief minister Farooq Abdullah for alleged pro‑Pakistan remarks.
The complaint was signed by Panun Kashmir chairman Tito Ganju and JSPM chairman Colonel Ajay Raina (retired). It accuses Abdullah of praising Pakistan, questioning the Union government’s ability to deliver justice, and warning that Kashmiris risk losing their identity if they do not confront the prevailing political climate.
Ganju told Times Now that the remarks “hurt the sentiments of nationalists” and that praising a country that “promotes terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir” is an insult to martyrs and the Indian Army. He demanded that police register a strong case and warned that the organisations would intensify protests across Jammu if an FIR is not filed.
At a National Conference party workers’ convention in Baramulla, Abdullah said Pakistan continues to highlight the Kashmir issue on international platforms and that global pressure keeps Indian authorities silent. He urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to fight or risk losing their identity, claiming Pakistan protects them.
The police have not yet opened a case. Both organisations expect the investigation to begin within the next 48 hours, and they have pledged to mobilise supporters in Jammu if the FIR is denied.
The outcome of the inquiry could set a precedent for how former leaders are held accountable for statements that may influence national sentiment.
