Ariana Grande added another high-profile chapter to her real estate portfolio when she closed on a 1,800-square-foot mid-century home in the Hollywood Hills for $4.9 million. The 2022 off-market deal, first reported by ABC, saw the singer acquire the property directly from Cameron Diaz, who had held the title since 2004.
Diaz never stepped foot inside the house as a resident. She bought the 1950s-era structure for $1.8 million specifically as a 'buffer' property, a strategy to shield her main residence from the prying eyes of the public and neighbors in the star-studded district. City records from 2009 revealed her original intent was far more ambitious: she planned to demolish the existing structure and replace it with a significantly larger mansion. Those blueprints never left the planning stage, but Diaz kept the home in her possession, undergoing a series of strategic upgrades.
The renovations were substantial. In 2018, Diaz installed a new roof and windows, expanded the kitchen, and remodeled both bathrooms while adding a powder room. She preserved the home's original mid-century character but injected modern conveniences into the two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom layout. The property sits on half an acre of steep hillside, protected by tall black gates and dense hedges that offer views of the Sunset Strip.
Grande’s acquisition pushes her California holdings to a more substantial collection. At the time of the purchase, she was residing in another Hollywood Hills home in the Bird Streets neighborhood. Her portfolio already included a Los Angeles mansion valued at approximately $9 million and the former Montecito estate of Ellen DeGeneres. The $4.9 million price tag represents a nearly threefold increase over what Diaz paid eighteen years prior, a testament to the enduring value of privacy in one of Hollywood’s most exclusive enclaves.
