Four residents of PoJK were killed by an IED near the Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district on Monday. The blast struck the Satwal‑Naki area of Hajira tehsil, just opposite the Indian side of the LoC.
The victims, Faizan Sagheer, Ishtiaq, Waqas Sharief and Asim Rafiq, all cousins from Battal Mandhol village, were reportedly laying water pipes when the device detonated.
Jammu and Kashmir officials state the circumstances of the explosion remain unclear, though the IED is believed to have been triggered during the work.
Earlier that Monday, Indian Army troops detected and destroyed two rusted landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector while constructing a track. The Army has defused around a dozen mines in the area in the past week, a reminder of the mine‑laden anti‑infiltration system that floods the LoC.
In response to the blast, security forces have stepped up vigilance along the LoC, conducting heightened patrols and a comprehensive assessment of potential breaches, with the army scheduled to carry out a detailed sweep of the sector in the next 48 hours.
