Albanian 117‑year‑old Qamile Marra, born August 19 1909, was granted a special state pension in Tirana on October 3 2026, after officials confirmed her age using a birth certificate, passport and identity card. Earlier this month, the government issued her a special state pension to mark her age, a move that reversed the payment halt that occurred when she turned 100. Hysen, her 80‑year‑old son, recounted how the pension was stopped and how he had to present evidence, including witnesses, to get it back. Marra’s age surpasses Guinness World Records’ current oldest living woman, Britain’s Ethel Caterham, by two days, making her the world’s oldest woman and the first Albanian to reach this milestone. The Ministry will convene a committee next month to evaluate pension eligibility for other supercentenarians, according to a spokesperson.
