Police in Bihar’s Mandar Hill detained six men after a woman was struck with slippers at the popular tourist site on September 3—an incident that unfolded in the early afternoon when the victim tried to flee the attackers.
The video that sparked the crackdown was sent to the Bounsi Police Station’s WhatsApp line on September 22 by Station House Officer Pankaj Kumar Jha. Jha confirmed the location, visited the scene to verify the footage, and filed a First Information Report citing “indecent behaviour and obscene acts.”
On receiving the clip, the police canvassed nearby villages and interviewed shopkeepers who described the assailants as young men but could not name them. The investigators are cross‑checking CCTV footage from the resort’s cameras and interviewing witnesses who were present during the assault.
The incident has not been isolated. Earlier in September, a video from Jamui showed men harassing two Class 10 students, and another clip from Samastipur captured four men physically assaulting a boy and a girl on a motorcycle. These cases have amplified concerns over security at tourist hubs in Bihar.
Authorities have filed an FIR under Section 354B of the Indian Penal Code and are preparing charge sheets once the suspects are positively identified. The next step, according to SHO Jha, will be to gather additional testimony from villagers and secure a court filing to ensure the accused face trial without delay.
The local community has reacted with anger, demanding stronger policing measures at Mandar Hill. The police spokesperson has promised a review of security protocols at the site and an increase in patrols during peak tourist season.
