The Kutch Copper unit of Adani Enterprises, situated in Mundra, Gujarat, announced a strategic expansion in its latest sustainability report, aiming to double its smelting capacity to 1 million tonnes per annum and cement its position as the world’s largest single‑location custom smelter.
The announcement followed the company’s decision to invest USD 1.2 billion in the project, a move that aligns with India’s broader push toward carbon neutrality by 2070.
Beyond the headline figure, Kutch Copper highlighted its near‑100% desalinated water usage and a zero‑liquid‑discharge policy that has already reduced freshwater draw by 75% since 2019. The facility also treats 99.8% of its sulphur emissions, a benchmark that places it ahead of most global peers.
Community outreach tops the report’s social agenda: the company is funding local healthcare clinics, digital classrooms, and livelihood training for 3,200 residents in the Mundra region.
The next milestone is the submission of environmental and safety clearances to the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, with an anticipated approval window opening in September 2026. The approval will unlock the plant’s full 1 million‑tonne capacity and activate the renewable energy integration plan.
