Infosys told the National Stock Exchange on May 28, 2026 that the sudden suspension of the PERM green‑card route by the U.S. Department of Labor will not materially affect its U.S. operations.
But the decision follows the administration’s halt of the PERM program for eight tech giants, including Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and HCL Technologies, citing concerns over displacement of American workers.
In the last fiscal year, Infosys filed 87 PERM applications, a steep drop from 1,804 in 2024, and its U.S. workforce now numbers 3,200 employees across 31 offices.
Vineet Nayar, former CEO of HCL Technologies, noted on X that Indian IT firms accounted for less than 2% of all PERM approvals last year, suggesting limited ripple effects.
Despite the cutback, Infosys highlights its commitment to a locally focused hiring model, having recruited 1,300 graduates from U.S. universities last year alone and now training 200 new hires in its Bangalore‑linked campus in Houston.
The company will continue to collaborate with the Department of Labor to clarify any lingering questions and reaffirm compliance with U.S. immigration law.
