Shares of Ambuja Cements Ltd. traded 3% higher on Thursday, October 29, after the company disclosed its September quarter results for FY 2026‑27. Net profit slid to ₹236 crore, a 89.9% drop from ₹2,336 crore a year earlier and trailing the CNBC‑TV18 poll estimate of ₹310 crore. Revenue held steady at ₹9,197 crore, a marginal rise from ₹9,175 crore last year, yet still shy of the ₹9,289 crore consensus.
EBITDA fell 29.6% YoY to ₹1,240 crore, missing the ₹1,275 crore estimate. The EBITDA margin contracted by 570 basis points, settling at 13.5% from 19.2% in the same quarter a year prior, and below the 13.7% estimate. These figures underline a tightening cost structure amid a softer demand environment.
The cement sector has been grappling with margin compression, as raw‑material costs climb and construction activity slows. Ambuja’s margin contraction mirrors the wider industry trend, where peers like ACC and UltraTech have reported similar declines in profitability.
Research analyst Sabita Kumar of JM Financial remarked that the sharp profit dip signals mounting cost pressures and a flat revenue base that may herald a cautious period for the company. She added that the firm’s ability to maintain revenue levels in a sluggish market is noteworthy, but the profitability squeeze remains a concern.
No forward guidance was issued in the filing, and the next earnings announcement is scheduled for March 2027. Investors will be watching for any cost‑control initiatives, new order pipelines, and the company’s response to the broader macro‑economic headwinds that are shaping the cement industry.
