CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke warned of a 'Jantar Mantar 2.0' protest in Mumbai on Friday if CEC Gyanesh Kumar does not resign. The rally, held at Shivaji Park, drew thousands of demonstrators as Dipke delivered a fiery speech demanding the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.
Dipke accused the CEC of inflating voter rolls by 13 crore across India, citing 40 lakh additions in Maharashtra, 40,000 deletions in Delhi, and similar irregularities in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
He also targeted BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alleging that the ruling coalition engineered the rolls to secure electoral advantage.
The protest attracted celebrities such as Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Vishal Bhardwaj, Hansal Mehta, Vishal Dadlani, and Tushar Gandhi, adding media attention to the cause.
Security forces cordoned the area up to Dadar station, and local residents complained about the heavy police presence.
Dipke said a nationwide march to Delhi will follow if Kumar does not resign, and he has already scheduled a press conference for next week to outline the CJP’s demands.
