A routine date adjustment, the commission said on Friday, pushed back Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s planned address to an Electoral Literacy Club in Meerut.
The move came just days after The Indian Express revealed that Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had lodged 14 formal objections over a 10‑month period to the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls.
The commission’s spokesperson clarified that the objections were part of ordinary multi‑member deliberations and that final SIR decisions were unanimous and legally sanctioned.
Local leaders in Meerut, including Member of Parliament Shashikant Sharma, expressed disappointment but noted the change was administrative.
The commission will continue to monitor the roll revisions and is slated to resume the cancelled conference on September 28, while the SIR process remains on schedule.
