Two foreign guests, a German and a Slovakian, lost their lives when an electric shock tore through the pool at the Conrad Bengaluru Hotel on Friday. But the incident also left a U.S. national and an Indian pool attendant injured, both taken to Manipal Hospital where they are now stable. The hotel’s emergency team rushed to the scene, yet the victims could not be revived.
In a statement released yesterday, the hotel said it was cooperating fully with the police and that the cause of the electrocution remains unclear. “We are offering our full support to the authorities investigating the incident,” the statement read, noting that the pool had been closed for maintenance for a month prior to the event.
A complaint has been lodged by the German guest’s wife, Silvia Ottawa, accusing the hotel of negligence. She alleges the guests were shocked while trying to exit the pool and that the facility’s safety protocols failed. Police have opened a case under the hotel’s name.
The Conrad chain, known for luxury stays, now faces scrutiny as investigators probe the pool’s electrical system and maintenance records. The incident highlights the high‑profile risks that can surface in Bengaluru’s upscale hospitality sector.
The investigation is expected to conclude within weeks, and the hotel may face civil liabilities. The families of the deceased are awaiting the outcome of the regulatory inquiry, while hotel officials promise a thorough review of safety procedures.
