On Oct 28, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ Land and Development Office (LDO) directed the Air Force Sports Complex to shut, citing a notice already served to reclaim the parcel.
The closure throws a wrench into Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh’s retirement ceremony, which was set to be a “golfing out” event at the course, a tradition that has linked the IAF chief to the facility since his appointment.
The decision is part of a larger reclamation push that has already taken back Delhi Race Club’s track, Jaipur Polo Ground, and the Delhi Gymkhana Club lease— all situated within a few hundred metres of the Prime Minister’s house on Lok Kalyan Marg.
LDO officials described the area as “highly sensitive and strategic” and said it will be repurposed for urgent institutional needs, governance infrastructure and public‑interest projects, yet no concrete redevelopment plan has been disclosed. A 2024 Delhi High Court ruling confirmed the complex is governed by a council of serving Air Force officers, adding a legal layer to the dispute.
