ICICI Prudential Life’s shares were flat in premarket trading after the insurer released its September premium data.
The company's premium volume grew 53% year‑on‑year, the highest among the four insurers reported. Retail APE, the annualised premium equivalent of newly regularised policies, edged up only 1%.
HDFC Life’s premium rose 36% with 24% APE, Axis Max Life added 7.4% premium and 4% APE, while SBI Life added 2% premium but APE fell 2%.
The disparity between premium and APE growth suggests a slowdown in new business uptake, a trend that may pressure insurers in the coming months. ICICI Prudential Life has not issued any forward guidance yet, but it will report its FY22 results next week.
