In the early hours of October 12, a man tried to snatch a passenger's mobile phone through an open window as a train departed Shivnarayanpur station. Coach occupants reacted swiftly, grabbing his hands and preventing his escape. The passengers’ quick intervention stopped the thief from disappearing into the crowd.
A video of the struggle was posted by Twitter user Ramesh Speaks, who noted the thief’s desperate attempts as the train accelerated.
Security personnel detained the man after he fell onto the platform, and the incident was logged by the Railway Protection Force.
The episode underscores the vulnerability of passengers during arrivals and departures, prompting the Railway Protection Force to remind commuters to report thefts to staff instead of confronting suspects.
Witnesses on the platform recounted the tense moment, with many expressing relief that the thief was apprehended.
