Milford Wayne Donaldson, a preservation architect, has put the Donaldson Futuro—a 793‑sq‑ft, 1969‑built, UFO‑shaped fiberglass‑plastic house—on the market for $1.495 million in the San Jacinto Mountains as of June 28, 2026.
Designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen, the Futuro was part of a limited run of about 100 prefabricated homes that could be flown into remote sites. Only 50–60 survive worldwide, and the Donaldson Futuro was rescued from neglect in San Diego before a 2004 flatbed truck move to Idyllwild.
Donaldson and his wife Laurie restored the home, keeping original Formica countertops, built‑in furniture and 1960s laminate finishes, while upgrading wiring and plumbing to meet California safety codes. The restoration earned praise from the California Preservation Foundation and secured the house’s place on the National Register of Historic Places.
The house, now a California historical landmark, will be sold to a buyer who can maintain its architectural integrity. Bidding closes July 15, after which the property will be transferred pending final inspection and compliance with state safety standards.
