Bangladesh’s foreign ministry, led by State Minister Shama Obaed Islam, sent a formal appeal to the Indian government demanding swift action on the Sheikh Hasina extradition case, stressing that political will must complement the legal framework.
India’s High Commissioner to Dhaka, Dinesh Trivedi, reiterated that the extradition process is governed by court procedures and that no definitive schedule could be provided at this stage.
Islam countered, asserting Bangladesh possesses the necessary political resolve, and urged India to match that resolve to ensure the suspect is returned.
In a separate development, outgoing Bangladesh High Commissioner Md Riaz Hamidullah met with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi, where they discussed broader bilateral issues and reaffirmed a commitment to mutual trust and shared benefits.
Riaz, who served as high commissioner for 18 months, highlighted during the meeting that both nations should foster an environment of dignity and collaboration to navigate the extradition dispute.
