Parvinder Singh Jhota was shot dead Tuesday after confronting medical store owner Ashwani Kumar over alleged drug sales to an elderly man. The confrontation turned violent, and the gunman fled to Rajasthan, where police arrested him in Salasar within 24 hours.
Bhagwant Mann said the state would not tolerate any involvement in the crime. “Everyone responsible will be brought to justice,” he told a press conference, citing the CM’s directive to the police chief for a meticulous probe.
The CM added that any conspiracy behind the murder would also face stern action. He highlighted that the government’s zero‑tolerance drug campaign is already targeting illegal sales and intoxicating medicines.
Jhota’s family expressed deep grief, calling the incident an irreparable loss for society. The activist had been active in anti‑drug movements for years, warning communities about the dangers of unregulated pharmaceuticals.
Police are now investigating potential links between the store owner and local drug peddlers. A formal charge sheet is expected within the next 48 hours, and the accused will face trial under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
