Infosys closed up about 2–3%, becoming the only IT index to finish in the green, as foreign institutional investors net bought ₹1,022.32 crore of shares, according to provisional data from the NSE.
Domestic institutional investors also added weight, net buying ₹1,614.32 crore across the market. Together, the two groups bought ₹2,636.64 crore, offsetting the ₹1,148.64 crore sold by FIIs on Monday.
Despite the inflow, the market slid, with the Nifty 50 falling 78 points to 22,811 and the Sensex dropping 143 points to 73,710. Breadth remained weak, with advancing stocks outnumbered by a ratio of roughly six to one.
The IT index’s gain was a bright spot, but the Nifty Bank index lost 511 points to 54,977 and the Midcap index fell 922 points to 57,566. Bajaj Finance fell more than 3% amid margin concerns, while auto stocks slid 2–3% following October vehicle registration data.
The next earnings cycle will test market sentiment, as IT giants like Infosys and TCS are set to report Q3 results this Friday. Analysts will weigh the sector’s resilience against the broader backdrop of a cautious market.
