Schwartz had been working at a digital‑advertising firm when the company closed amid the pandemic. With no work and a restless need to stay active, he pulled out his mower and offered free service to neighbors over 65 in the summer of 2020.
Word spread quickly. Within weeks, requests came from across New Jersey and beyond. Schwartz leveraged his web‑development background to build a platform that matched volunteers with those in need, allowing requests to be posted and volunteers to sign up for specific dates.
Today the nonprofit, registered as a 501(c)(3), boasts more than 2,000 volunteers in all 50 states, serving seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. The platform also coordinates leaf removal and snow clearing, expanding beyond summer mowing.
Local media, including Landscape Management, have highlighted the movement, and Schwartz continues to oversee operations from New Jersey. The next phase is to secure corporate partnerships to sustain the growing demand for volunteer yard work.
