
Starlink has finished installing 20 gateway sites and hundreds of antennas across India, setting the stage for a nationwide high‑speed satellite internet rollout in 2026.
SpaceX’s Starlink had been negotiating with the Department of Telecommunications for five years before the government granted licences to three satellite operators, including Starlink, later this year.
At the India Mobile Congress, VP Lauren Dreyer highlighted that the company has built security controls at every layer and will keep Indian user data within the country.
She also previewed the firm’s broader space ambitions, noting that reusable Falcon‑9 rockets have become routine and that the next‑generation Starship has reached orbit, while AI computing capacity is being developed for future satellite‑based services.
The new infrastructure will bring high‑speed connectivity to remote villages that lack fibre, potentially transforming education and commerce in underserved regions.
Starlink will begin commercial services in India on 15 August 2026, with a phased rollout across major states, and regulators are preparing the final licensing paperwork.
