Krishna, a head constable posted at Aman Vihar police station, woke up with a swollen jaw and five stitches near his left eye after a routine errand turned violent in the Mangolpuri sector. The attack happened around 12:15 AM on September 23, shortly after he bought a cold drink for his sick wife. He claims seven to eight local youths confronted him, leading to a chase and a subsequent beating with a baseball bat.
Security footage from a nearby petrol pump captures the entire sequence. In the video, Krishna is seen scolding the group before they swarm him. They strike him repeatedly, knocking him down. He also lost a gold chain and a mobile phone during the scuffle, though police later recovered the device. The brutality is stark: a uniformed officer, off-duty, disabled by a group of unmasked attackers in broad daylight—well, late-night darkness.
The ordeal didn't end with the physical assault. Krishna rushed to the Vijay Vihar police station to file a First Information Report (FIR). He alleges the officers there refused to register the complaint, citing jurisdictional issues. They told him the Mangolpuri area falls under their own station, not Vijay Vihar. “They told me that the area where the fight took place does not come under Vijay Vihar police station,” Krishna said in a viral video. He added that officers also denied him a phone to call his family, though a senior constable eventually intervened.
Krishna is currently unable to chew food due to the swelling in his jaw. He has directed his anger at the administrative hurdle as much as the attackers. “I am a police officer. I came to report a crime. Why is this being treated as a jurisdictional debate?” he asked. The Mangolpuri police station has not yet issued a formal statement on whether an FIR has been registered.
The Delhi Police have not responded to immediate inquiries. However, the incident has ignited debate on the protection of off-duty personnel and the efficiency of FIR registration in disputed zones. Legal experts suggest that if the FIR is still pending, a complaint to the Commissioner of Police is the next procedural step. For now, Krishna is recovering at home, watching the CCTV footage on loop, waiting for the men who broke his jaw to be named and arrested.
