BJP MLA Manab Deka tore into the Congress at a packed Jan Jagran rally in Khanapara, Guwahati, on Wednesday, dismissing Rahul Gandhi as unfit to lead the country. Deka, speaking alongside Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allies, framed the opposition’s stance on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as pure political cowardice.
The analogy was vivid. Deka told the crowd that Congress behaves like a child who deliberately trips and then starts beating the soil, acting as if the ground caused the fall. “The condition of the Congress party today is similar to what we used to do as children,” Deka said, arguing the party questions electoral outcomes only to console itself after losing. He pointed to the party’s victories in Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala, noting the silence on process integrity when they win.
Deka also took a personal swipe at the UPA chief, stating he does not believe Gandhi is capable of becoming Prime Minister. This remark came just as Union Home Minister Amit Shah had predicted a Congress defeat in the 2029 elections. The Congress immediately pushed back, claiming Shah’s prediction itself proves their “vote chori” allegations. The political war over electoral rolls is now a national flashpoint.
The rally was part of the statewide Jan Jagran Yatra, announced by Sarma to oppose what the BJP calls Congress attempts to shield illegal infiltrators by blocking SIR. Campaigning will move to other district headquarters, with the final leg scheduled for October 31, 2026. The focus remains on mobilizing support for the electoral revision before the next general election cycle heats up.
