Guy Parmelin landed in New Delhi on Monday for a three‑day state visit, greeted at Rashtrapati Bhavan and seated beside Prime Minister Narendra Modi for talks that spanned trade, investment, and technology.
Parmelin highlighted that the TEPA, which entered force in October 2025, is already stimulating Swiss investment in India’s transport, logistics, pharmaceuticals and tech sectors, and he called the partnership "going from strength to strength."
He noted that about 1,500 to 1,900 work permits for Indian nationals are issued annually in Switzerland, a figure that sits alongside a 19,000‑strong Indian community contributing across Swiss society.
The president also confirmed that the first wave of tariff reductions under TEPA will roll out in 2026, setting the stage for a gradual lift in trade barriers over the coming years.
