Assistant Commissioner of Police Rubina Mizwani confirmed on Saturday that an FIR has been lodged against Kamal Chauhan, the BJP mandal president for Indore Assembly constituency no 2. The case cites Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering assault with intent to outrage modesty and sexual harassment, alongside provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The alleged incident occurred on October 15 in the Heera Nagar police station area during a Garba event.
A video circulating on social media allegedly captures Chauhan approaching the 15-year-old girl, appearing agitated, and pushing her. Police have not yet arrested Chauhan, but the investigation is now formally underway based on the minor's complaint. The visual evidence has amplified the severity of the accusations, moving the matter beyond the realm of verbal disputes.
The ruling party’s Indore unit president, Sumit Mishra, moved swiftly to distance the organization from the accused. Mishra issued a show-cause notice to Chauhan, stating that his conduct was fundamentally inconsistent with the party’s ideology and the responsibilities attached to his position. The notice demands a clarification within three days; failure to respond will trigger disciplinary action, likely resulting in expulsion from the party ranks.
The next 72 hours will determine whether Chauhan remains a part of the BJP structure in Indore. Police are expected to summon him for questioning as part of the ongoing inquiry, while the party machinery awaits his written defense before deciding on his political future.
