At 6:40 p.m. on August 12, 2024, Head Constable Avdesh Kumar Singh fired indiscriminately at his CISF colleagues inside the Sewa Power Project office in Mashka village, Basohli, Kathua district.
The shooting claimed the lives of Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Rafiq Ahmed and Constable Sandeep Kumar.
CISF officials confirmed Singh carried an AK‑47 loaded with 150 rounds, and that he entered the office armed, a detail that underscores the premeditated nature of the assault.
The four wounded were rushed to the NHPC hospital in Himachal Pradesh, where they succumbed to their injuries, raising concerns about emergency response times in remote zones.
Police secured the scene and arrested Singh, who was handed over to authorities for questioning; the investigation will probe the trigger of the altercation and any disciplinary lapses.
