The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) set a 4 p.m. meeting at Shivaji Park, Gate No. 6, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Oct 2, 2024—an act that threatens to shake the electoral machinery.
Ashutosh Ranka, the CJP co‑convener, blasted the CEC for allegedly removing 13 crore names from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision exercise, claiming the move favoured the BJP‑led government.
Ranka accused the BJP of defending Kumar and questioned why the Election Commission remained silent, adding that the delimitation in Assam let villagers vote in three constituencies to secure Himanta Biswa Sarma’s win.
The Maharashtra government has not yet approved the protest, leaving the CJP to seek legal recourse; meanwhile, Ranka warned that failure to get the CEC to step down within 48 hours would trigger a nationwide "Jantar Mantar 2.0".
If the protest proceeds, it could force the CEC to answer to the press or risk a mass mobilization—an outcome that may compel Delhi to reconsider the CEC’s position before the next general elections.
