The ATR‑42, a twin‑aisle turboprop used by the Nigerian Air Force, was on a routine flight to Lagos when it went down in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State, authorities said.
The aircraft carried 25 passengers and seven crew members, a total of 32 people, but the Air Force has not yet confirmed any casualties.
Preliminary inspection shows extensive damage to the fuselage, though investigators are still assessing the severity.
Search and rescue teams were mobilised immediately, according to the Nigerian Air Force, which also identified the aircraft as an ATR‑42.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo announced the incident in a statement, noting that the aircraft was on a routine mission.
Authorities are conducting an investigation, and a briefing is expected on Tuesday to disclose findings.
