FSSAI says the products carried claims about high protein content, lean muscle maintenance, muscle strength, immunity support and energy metabolism, all presented on packaging in a way that could mislead consumers.
On Instagram, the regulator posted a notice demanding Dr Reddy's and Nestle Health Science explain why no action should be taken, citing non‑compliant advertising and misleading claims.
Other vendors such as Amazon, Flipkart, Netmeds, Tirupati Wellness, Nex International and Shreyash Retail Pvt. Ltd. are also under scrutiny for similar packaging practices.
Companies must submit detailed explanations within 14 days; after that, FSSAI may impose fines or order product recalls.
The regulator warned that phrases like "boost muscle strength" could create false expectations, underscoring the need for accurate health‑benefit statements.
