India's Centre has topped its 80,000‑crore disinvestment target for FY 2026‑27, raising 88,665 crore after the sale of an IDBI Bank stake.
The ₹26,500 crore from the IDBI deal joins ₹55,757 crore already collected from share sales, including a ₹31,000 crore haul from the LIC share auction.
Asset monetisation has yielded ₹6,367 crore, while additional share sales are in progress and a ₹15–20k crore target remains for InvITs linked to highways.
The government also eyed monetising capital stadiums and the Hotel Ashok, but security concerns have stalled the latter.
Dividend payouts are robust, with RBI announcing a record ₹2.9 lakh crore, banks expected to deliver a bumper payout, and PSUs contributing ₹17,773 crore to the treasury.
Direct taxes are on the rise and GST revenue has outpaced targets, suggesting the fiscal house is solid enough to absorb higher fuel and fertiliser subsidies, with the disinvestment surplus offering a buffer.
