India’s exports to China jumped 38.71% to $9.61 bn during the April‑August 2025‑26 window, a 39% climb that eclipses the prior year’s growth.
Electronics shipments to China rose 15% year‑on‑year, with printed‑circuit board assemblies, smartphones and telecom gear driving the surge; last fiscal year’s electronics exports to China had already tripled to $3.18 bn.
Engineering goods also lifted, rising 21% in the same period, as machinery, auto components and hand tools saw higher demand.
Yet the trade imbalance stubbornly persists: India imported $131.6 bn of Chinese goods last year, leaving a $112.1 bn deficit that dwarfs the export gains.
Rajoo Goel, secretary‑general of the Electronic Industries Association of India, said the uptick is tied to AI‑related equipment needs, signalling a shift toward high‑tech supply chains. Both governments have pledged to intensify talks, with a follow‑up ministerial forum slated for the coming weeks.
