The Reading Room, a 5,099‑sq‑ft Victorian estate perched on 0.69 acres in Narragansett Pier, cut its price by $1.2 million to $9.75 million on October 18, 2026, after being listed at $10.95 million in June.
Built in 1880 as a private club for men to read and smoke cigars, the building was relocated to 41 Ocean Road in 1899 to join the Narragansett Pier Casino complex; it later became a residence and guest house in the 1930s.
The Delman family purchased the home in 1971, and a major restoration in 2010 earned it recognition from Preserve Rhode Island and the Rhody Awards, preserving its stained‑glass windows, custom millwork and period chandeliers.
The price cut comes as the market for high‑end coastal homes in Narragansett tightens, with the town seeing fewer than 20 luxury listings this year; the new price places the Reading Room among the top five most expensive properties in the area.
Real‑estate broker Kevin Smith, who listed the property, said the open house will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. next Saturday, and he expects a competitive bidding process given the historic allure and prime waterfront location.
