Sanjukta Parashar, a 2006‑batch IPS officer from the Assam‑Meghalaya cadre, succeeded Danesh Rana as Inspector General of the CRPF’s Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) in June 2024.
CoBRA was formed in 2008‑09 to counter left‑wing extremism and insurgency in the Northeast; the unit now fields roughly 1,200 elite commandos trained in jungle warfare.
Before joining CRPF, Parashar served as Deputy Inspector General of the National Investigation Agency and led counterinsurgency operations in Assam’s upper region; she earned a medal for excellence from Home Minister Amit Shah in 2022.
CRPF officials said the move signals a shift toward greater gender parity in the force and is expected to encourage more women to pursue careers in paramilitary services; the new IG will oversee training and operational planning for CoBRA’s jungle missions.
