Ahmed Ragab rushed from a shop in Ard El‑Lewa, Giza, on Oct. 4, 2026, and caught a five‑year‑old boy who fell from a second‑floor balcony after hearing screams.
The boy had briefly snagged a washing line, giving Ragab a split‑second window before he hit the ground. Ragab sprinted, positioned himself beneath the child, and cradled him in his arms, preventing a fatal impact. Footage of the instant spread across Egyptian social media within hours, earning him praise for presence of mind.
When asked about his actions, Ragab said, "I had no time to think about my own safety; all I wanted was to stop the child from hitting the ground." He added that he could not explain how he managed to reach the boy in time.
In response, the Giza municipal office issued a safety advisory urging parents to keep children away from balcony edges and remove loose objects that could be used to climb. The incident has spurred calls for stricter balcony guardrail regulations across Egypt.
